BIS seizes over 4.9 kg of non-hallmarked gold jewellery in Tiruchi

Officials of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Coimbatore Branch Office, seized over 4.9 kilograms of non-hallmarked gold jewellery items during a search and seizure operation at two jewellery shops in Big Bazaar Street, Tiruchi, on Tuesday, for violating the mandatory hallmarking provisions under the BIS Act, 2016.
The raid was conducted by two teams from the BIS Coimbatore Branch Office led by Directors S. Rino John and G. Vinith Kumar.
During the inspection, officials found gold jewellery being offered for sale without the mandatory Hallmarking Unique Identification (HUID) 6-digit alphanumeric number, which is required for the sale of gold jewellery in the country.
