Bird flu detected in Forster as state total reaches 40 cases

All articles from our website The digital version of Today's Paper Continue After an earlier detection at Hawks Nest, the highly pathogenic H5 bird flu has officially spread further up the Great Lakes with the virus discovered in Forster earlier this week.

The NSW Government confirmed samples taken from a Greater Crested Tern in Forster was among eight new H5 bird flu events detected across the state.

The latest discoveries bring the state's total to 40 H5 bird flu events, with authorities continuing strict surveillance across NSW.

A NSW Government spokesperson said a comprehensive plan was being implemented to bolster the state's preparedness, surveillance and response to the virus.
