Bimal Akoijam terminated by JNU after sexual harassment complaints

The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Friday dismissed Professor Angomcha Bimol Akoijam of the School of Social Sciences following an inquiry by the university’s internal committee into allegations of sexual harassment. Akoijam is also the Congress Lok Sabha MP from Inner Manipur. Officials said that around 10-12 students from the Centre for Study of Social Systems had filed a sexual harassment complaint against him. An order by Vice Chancellor Santishree D Pandit stated: “Whereas, an inquiry was conducted by the Internal Committee (IC) against Prof. Angomcha Bimol Akoijam of Centre for the Study of Social Systems, School of Social Sciences, pursuant to allegations of sexual harassment… and based on the findings, the Internal Committee (IC) recommended major punishment to Prof.
