NEW DELHI: The National Commission for Women (NCW) on Monday took suo motu cognizance of harassment and assault of a young woman and her male companion in Bihar’s Jamui district, after a video of the incident surfaced on social media.NCW chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar wrote to Bihar director general of police, calling for the immediate registration of an FIR, identification and arrest of all those involved, and a time-bound and impartial investigation.The commission has specifically asked authorities to use the video footage to identify the alleged perpetrators and take action against them.The incident reportedly took place on the evening of September 19. Bihar Police said the woman and the man were allegedly stopped and harassed by a group of people by the roadside.Jamui Police said that an FIR had been registered and SIT was formed to probe the incident.
