Why it matters
It demonstrates the role of private philanthropy in addressing early childhood education gaps in local communities.
Bezos Academy recently opened its largest preschool in Texas, Bezos Academy Denton. The $6 million school is located at 1820 Frame St. and has six classrooms which the academy says can serve up to 120 children. Founded by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos in 2020, Bezos Academy offers Montessori-inspired preschool education at no cost to eligible families. The Denton school will also support children from across the community, including children of Texas Woman’s University (TWU) students and employees. The preschool was built on university-owned land through a partnership between TWU, Bezos Academy and the City of Denton.
