Beyond the fairytale: Nayab Midha’s Rajkumari comes to Bengaluru

Spoken word artist Nayab Midha discusses her production 'Rajkumari,' which challenges traditional fairytale narratives regarding women's roles. The show, currently touring India, focuses on the importance of women building their own lives rather than waiting for rescue.
Why it matters
It highlights the role of contemporary performance art in fostering social dialogue about gender expectations and personal agency.
There is something wonderfully disarming about speaking to Nayab Midha. For someone who has built a career performing before thousands, she still talks about the stage with the excitement of someone discovering it for the first time. “I like to say I was born on stage,” Nayab says. That joy is at the heart of Rajkumari, her two-and-a-half hour spoken word production that comes to Bengaluru as part of a 22-city India tour.
The article focuses on feminist themes and the deconstruction of traditional gender roles.
