Bersatu sill part of Perikatan, will be invited for meeting, says Takiyuddin
The High Court has stayed the deregistration of the Perikatan Nasional coalition, allowing Bersatu to remain a member. The coalition plans to invite Bersatu to upcoming meetings despite ongoing internal disputes.
Why it matters
The legal status of political coalitions is vital for electoral participation, particularly ahead of the Melaka state election.
KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional will call on Bersatu to attend a meeting despite the dispute between the two sides remaining unresolved, says Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.
The Perikatan secretary-general said Bersatu remained a component party of the coalition and would be invited to attend an upcoming meeting, Malay language daily Sinar Harian reports.
He said the High Court’s decision on Thursday (Oct 22) to suspend the notice cancelling Perikatan’s registration, issued by the Registrar of Societies (ROS), allowed the coalition to convene meetings.
“We will call Bersatu for a meeting. It is still a component party,” he said when asked whether the coalition would invite Bersatu to a meeting at a press conference in the lobby of the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex on Thursday.
Previously, Takiyuddin had claimed that Bersatu was behind the Perikatan's deregistration by the ROS following the party’s complaint over alleged breaches of the coalition’s constitution.
