Why it matters
Reflects internal political instability and legal challenges within Malaysia's Perikatan Nasional coalition.
Bersatu secretary-general Azmin Ali said the party will discuss the PN meeting with its lawyers before deciding whether to attend.
PETALING JAYA: Bersatu has raised concerns that the Perikatan Nasional supreme council meeting slated for tonight could be in breach of the Societies Act.
While PN has obtained a stay of its deregistration by the Registrar of Societies (RoS), Bersatu secretary-general Azmin Ali said, the High Court held that a stay does not amount to an automatic restoration of the coalition's status.
Azmin also pointed out that the RoS and home minister have appealed against the stay.
"Bersatu believes that since a notice of appeal has been filed, all parties should preserve the status quo of the RoS's decision until all levels of proceedings have been exhausted.
"If PAS and its allies proceed with the PN supreme council meeting, Bersatu fears it would have serious legal implications.
