BenQ GV50 Review: Highly Portable, but With Quality Trade-Offs

The BenQ GV50 is a portable projector designed for ceiling viewing, offering high convenience but sacrificing picture quality and advanced audio features. While it is a versatile option for casual streaming, users should be prepared for trade-offs in speed and contrast.
Why it matters
As portable home entertainment becomes more popular, consumers need to balance the desire for flexible viewing setups against the technical limitations of compact hardware.

WIRED Great portability with an ingenious stand. Easy to set up and use. Projects easily onto the ceiling. TIRED Mid-level picture quality and contrast. Some connectivity issues with Wi-Fi 5. Slow processor and minimal RAM on board. No Ethernet or HDMI eARC. Portable projectors offer flexibility and the freedom to watch Netflix anywhere and from any angle—including looking straight up at the ceiling from your bed. When I tried this setup using the small, battery-powered BenQ GV50—which the brand markets as a ceiling projector—it worked well. I can’t say the picture quality or even the sound were spectacular, but the projector is indeed capable of project-it-anywhere portability.
