Bengaluru: North Corporation starts institutional dog drive after identifying over 900 dogs
Bengaluru North City Corporation has launched a program to manage institutional stray dogs by contracting a private agency to catch and house them in shelters. This initiative follows a Supreme Court directive to remove stray dogs from public institutions like schools and hospitals.

Bengaluru North City Corporation has awarded a one-year contract to catch and maintain institutional dogs. With this, it has become one of the first corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) to begin implementing the Supreme Court’s directions on institutional dogs.
The contract has been awarded to Rajasthan-based Booth Purva Sainik Welfare Sanstha for Zone 1 and came into effect on August 1. The corporation has recently handed over the dog shelter facility at Medi Agrahara. Under the contract, the corporation will pay ₹3,335 per dog for the first month, which includes catching and maintenance, and ₹3,035 per dog per month from the second month onwards.
