Ben Affleck wins $1 million prize on 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire'

Why it matters
Celebrity-driven game shows often serve as significant fundraising vehicles for charitable organizations.
Ben Affleck won big on Wednesday night’s episode of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.”
The Oscar-winning, Cambridge-raised star joined “Jeopardy!” champion Jamie Ding to compete on the celebrity edition of the game show, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. Looking to win the $1 million prize for Affleck’s Eastern Congo Initiative nonprofit, the pair came into the episode having already won $250,000 in last week’s season premiere, leaving them two final questions to answer on Wednesday night.
During the premiere, Kimmel poked fun at Ding for teaming up with Boston’s other famous “Good Will Hunting” star, noting how fellow “Jeopardy!” champion (and now the show’s host) Ken Jennings competed last year with “the accursed Matt Damon,” Kimmel’s longtime frenemy. Jennings and Damon would go on to win the $1 million prize.
