Belagavi district administration seeks transfer of Cantonment land

The Belagavi district administration has sought the transfer of around 860 acres of land from the Cantonment board to the city corporation. This is based on the directions issued by the Union government about the excision of civilian areas within military cantonment areas. The Belgaum Cantonment board, however, is yet to take a decision on the matter.

Sudam Harivijay Manchalwar, Cantonment Board CEO, told reporters here on Wednesday that the proposal was still under consideration.

“The uncertainty surrounding the proposed transfer had created confusion among citizens, employees and contractors, particularly over ongoing works and new tenders issued by the Cantonment Board. It has also affected the response to tenders called by the board. Some contractors seem to be reluctant to participate in tenders fearing that they may not receive payment if the area is subsequently transferred to the city corporation,’’ he said.
