At least 1,128 trees are required to be felled to accommodate the short tunnel , spanning 2.2 km, between Hebbal Junction and the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS) staff quarters in Bengaluru. The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has issued a public notice inviting objections and suggestions.
The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has submitted an application seeking permission to axe 1,128 trees along Hebbal road for the construction of a three-lane, bi-directional road underpass between Hebbal Junction and UAS via Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University (KVAFSU).
The development comes amid a massive backlash against the project from citizen groups , who have repeatedly cited the massive environmental impact likely to be caused. Recently, an awareness walk at Hebbal Lake was also planned to discuss the impact of mega infrastructure projects on the environment, but it was cancelled following police intervention through notices .
