Bay low-pressure system offers hope to rain-starved Andhra Pradesh amid severe historical deficits
A low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a depression and move toward the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh coast by September 23. This weather event is highly anticipated as it may provide relief to regions suffering from severe agricultural rainfall deficits.

The low-pressure area over the north Andaman Sea and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal has moved west-northwestwards, lying over the region as of 0530 hrs IST on Sunday (September 20, 2026).
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the system is very likely to intensify gradually into a depression over the east-central Bay of Bengal on September 21 and into a deep depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal on September 22.
Continuing its west-northwestward track, it is projected to reach the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal near the south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts around the morning of September 23.
