Basavadi Sharanara Hindu Samavesha triggers debate among religious heads

The proposed Basavadi Sharanara Hindu Samavesha, scheduled to be held in Kalaburagi city on September 27, has sparked a debate among religious heads and followers of Basava philosophy, with different groups of seers taking contrasting positions on the event and its nomenclature.

Koraneshwara Swami of Anubhava Mantap in Aland and Basava Prabhu Swami of Gunateerthawadi in Basava Kalyan addressed the presspersons on Saturday and opposed the proposed convention, alleging it sought to offer a different interpretation of the vachanas of the 12th-Century social reformer Basaveshwara and could confuse his followers.

Basava Prabhu Swami objected to including the word ‘Hindu’ in the convention’s title. He said the organisers should remove the word ‘Hindu’ and maintain the event strictly within the philosophical and social framework of the Sharana tradition.
