Banned Jamaat factions spar over ‘ideological shift’, ‘property takeover’ in Kashmir
Two factions of the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) in Kashmir are in conflict over ideological direction and the management of organizational property. The dispute follows the decision of one faction, the Justice Development Front, to participate in the 2024 Assembly elections.

Two factions of the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) on Monday (September 7) sparred over the “shift in ideological stand” and alleged “takeover of property” in Kashmir by its offshoot Justice Development Front (JDF), which participated in Assembly elections in 2024.
Leaders of the breakaway faction of the JeI, including Ghulam Qadir Wani and Ahmadullah Parray Malik, addressed the press in Srinagar and alleged there were attempts “to sow the seeds of suspicion among their supporters by using the labels like traitors and sellouts”.
Alleging that the members of the banned JeI, headed by ex-chief Ghulam Muhammad Bhat, were “making attempts to engage the Centre”, Mr. Parray said, “We welcome these efforts. This is the right path. We appeal to people, especially youth, and ask them to abide by the constitution to get the issues resolved”.
