Ballot mix-up: Voters at centre of Amolo's Oyam South court battle

The High Court in Lira is set to begin hearing an election petition on Friday, September 18, 2026, in which Queen Dorothy Amolo is challenging the election of Patrick Ogwang Obura as Member of Parliament for Oyam County South.

Amolo, who contested as an Independent, is seeking to overturn Ogwang Obura's victory. Ogwang Obura contested on the ticket of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) in the January 2026 General Election.

Other respondents named in the petition are the Electoral Commission (EC) and Oyam District Returning Officer, Joseph Omona.

According to results declared by Omona on January 15, 2026, Ogwang Obura won with 29,353 votes out of 49,137 valid votes cast.
