Ballistics witness provides crucial gun evidence in ‘AKA’ murder trial

A ballistics expert testified in the murder trial of rapper AKA and his friend, linking one of the firearms used in the crime to a separate murder case in Durban. The defense is currently disputing the evidence regarding the possession of the weapon found on one of the accused.
Why it matters
The trial is a high-profile case in South Africa, and the forensic evidence linking multiple murders underscores the role of organized crime and illegal firearms.
One of the two firearms used to kill world-renowned rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and his friend, Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane, could be linked to five other crimes, said a ballistics expert in the KwaZulu-Natal high court in Durban on Monday.
Ruwain Kader was giving evidence in the trial of seven men accused of killing Forbes and Motsoane.
