A GoFundMe campaign set up for Donohue says her medical expenses have exceeded A$30,000 ($36,000) and are still rising.
“What should have been a beautiful trip has turned into something none of us could ever have imagined,” the fundraiser reads.
“We are now doing everything we possibly can to arrange the care and transport needed to bring Amy home safely to Australia.”
The campaign had raised nearly A$9000 ($10790) at the time of publication. Organisers say donations will help cover hospital treatment, evacuation expenses, continuing medical care and Donohue’s return home.
