Bahlil: ESDM, Investment Ministry confirmed under new coordinating ministry

The Indonesian government has confirmed that the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and the Ministry of Investment will fall under a new coordinating ministry focused on downstreaming and energy transition. Minister Bahlil Lahadalia indicated that further consolidation is ongoing, with the Ministry of Industry potentially being added.
Why it matters
This cabinet restructuring signals a strategic shift in Indonesia's economic policy, prioritizing industrialization and energy transition as core pillars of the current administration.
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) and the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming have been confirmed as ministries to be coordinated by the newly established Coordinating Ministry for Downstreaming and Energy Transition, Coordinating Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said.
Bahlil said the government was still finalizing the composition of ministries under the coordinating ministry and could add one or two ministries whose responsibilities are closely related to downstreaming.
"We are still consolidating. The ministries under us have not been 100% finalized. But I can give you a little hint that most likely, what is already certain is ESDM, as well as the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming. Those are certain," Bahlil told reporters on the sidelines of the Investor Daily Summit 2026 on Wednesday.
He said the Ministry of Industry could potentially be included because downstreaming is closely linked to industrialization.
