Badarli’s supporters stage protest
Supporters of MLA Hampana Gowda Badarli staged a protest in Sindhanur after he was excluded from the state cabinet expansion. The demonstration included an attempted self-immolation, highlighting internal party tensions within the Congress.
Why it matters
Internal party dissent and cabinet selection processes are critical indicators of political stability in Indian state governments.
Supporters of Sindhanur MLA Hampana Gowda Badarli held a protest in Sindhanur and expressed anguish against Congress party’s high command for not including their leader in the State Cabinet. One of them even tried self-immolation, but it was foiled by the police.
Unhappy about him not being included in the second phase ministry expansion, hundreds of his supporters staged a snap protest at Gandhi Circle in Sindhanur and raised slogans against the party high command.
The protestors said that they were upset because the party had failed to recognise his unblemished record as MLA and loyalty towards the party.
Several of his followers had gone to the State capital to greet him, believing that he would become the Minister, but they had to return disappointed.
