Why it matters
The event highlights the continued economic strength of the live music industry and the high demand for legacy pop acts.
The Backstreet Boys have tacked on an additional two concerts their Toronto residency, bringing the total number of shows to 11.
Tickets to the nine shows that were previously announced went on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday and as of noon, most of those tickets had been snatched up.
“It’s. All. Happening. You guys have blown through these tickets and we truly didn’t know the demand would be THIS BIG so we are adding TWO MORE SHOWS on March 5th & 6th so as many of you as possible can experience,” the band wrote on social media on Friday.
Shortly after 11 a.m., when tickets for the two new dates went on sale, there were nearly 100,000 people in the Ticketmaster queue for the Saturday show.
The first of the 11 concerts, which will be held at the Rogers Centre, is on Feb. 12.
