Babiito explains Burial MoU breach: ‘Our mission was to bury Oyo as a king’

The Babiito royal clan has defended its actions during the burial of Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, saying its overriding mission was to ensure that the late king’s body left Karuziika Palace, went to church and was finally buried at the Karambi Royal Tombs according to Tooro traditions, despite a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) barring succession-related activities during the burial.

Fr Charles Oyo, a member of the 21-member Babiito royal clan succession committee and spokesperson for the clan under the office of Omujwera Musuuga Charles Kamurasi, said the clan signed the MoU but was primarily concerned with ensuring that Oyo, as a deceased Omukama, received the traditional burial rites accorded to his predecessors.
