B.C. hands out nearly $22K in fines for illegal campfires over weekend
British Columbia conservation officers issued 19 fines over the weekend for violations of campfire bans currently in place due to extreme wildfire risks. The province is battling over 100 active wildfires, leading to evacuations and strict enforcement of fire safety regulations.

"Claiming you didn’t know about the campfire ban is not an acceptable excuse," the B.C. Conservation Officer Service wrote in a Facebook post.
It said officers issued 19 fines over the weekend while patrolling across several regions.
"Protect our forests, communities, and wildlife by staying informed and following all fire restrictions," the service wrote.
Campfires are currently banned in the Kamloops, Cariboo and southeast fire centres, as well as most of the Coastal Fire Centre.
