Awarapan 2 box office: Emraan Hashmi-headliner makes Rs 56 crore in two days

Awarapan 2 is going strong at the box office. The Emraan Hashmi-headliner, a sequel to the 2007 cult film, made Rs 33.75 crore net on its second day of release. This takes the film’s total collection to Rs 55.75 crore net (the Nitin Kakkar directorial made Rs 22 crore on its first day).Overseas, the film collected Rs 3.50 crore on Day 2, taking its total overseas gross to Rs 6 crore so far. This pushes the worldwide gross collection to Rs 72.90 crore..Playing across 10,496 shows, the film recorded an overall occupancy of 59.94 per cent on Saturday. Among the major regions, Delhi-NCR had the highest number of shows at 1,051 and recorded an occupancy of 68.3 per cent. Mumbai followed with 814 shows and an occupancy of 54.5 per cent.In comparison, Sunny Deol’s parallel release Batwara 1947 is trailing behind. The film opened with Rs 5.75 crore on Friday and showed an impressive increase to Rs 13.5 crore. It’s total net collection thus amounts to Rs 19.25 crore..When it comes to critics’ response, Awarapan 2 has received a mixed bag. The film was appreciated for playing on the nostalgia but the story itself was less engaging for many. CE’s review of the film read: “Awarapan 2 stands on its own, eventhough its stance is wobbly. For the millennials there is a lot to cheer for. Hashmi is back in his brood, sporting rexine jackets over black vests.
