Avadi Corporation develops 12 new parks in effort to provide more green spaces
The Avadi Municipal Corporation is developing 12 new parks to increase green cover and improve rainwater management. These projects include restoring water bodies and adding recreational facilities to mitigate monsoon flooding.

In its efforts to enhance green cover, the Avadi Municipal Corporation is developing 12 new parks across Avadi. The projects also include creating sponge parks and parks around water bodies, which are aimed at improving rainwater recharge and helping mitigate inundation during monsoon.
The initiative is also expected to create additional green and recreational spaces in every neighbourhood. Avadi Corporation officials said each project was designed based on the specific needs of a locality. Work is in progress to develop the parks at a cost of ₹9.69 crore.
Restoration of Arafath Lake, along with a park at Thirumullavoyal, is one of the major ongoing projects. Besides works to deepen the lake for increased storage capacity, bund protection works are being carried out to prevent breaches. The ₹2.99 crore project would include a park and facilities like a children’s play area, a food court, and an open-air theatre.
