A 52-year-old autorickshaw driver died after being hit by a suburban electric train while he was crossing the tracks at the Vandalur Railway Station on Sunday.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) officials said the incident took place when Palani, from Lakshmi Nagar in Urapakkam, was returning home after visiting his friend in Vandalur.

Palani had parked his autorickshaw on the GST Road and had gone to visit his friend’s house on the western side of the Vandalur Railway Station. While crossing the railway tracks on his way back, he was hit by a suburban train coming from Chengalpattu.
