Automated detection of carotid artery encasement on CT scans using an AI-driven approach

Researchers have developed an AI-driven method using U-Net and SAM-Med2D models to detect carotid artery encasement in head and neck cancer patients. The study demonstrates that automated segmentation of tumors and arteries on CT scans can assist in surgical planning.
Why it matters
Improving the accuracy of surgical planning for complex head and neck cancers can reduce recurrence rates and improve patient outcomes.
