The child, identified as Ruksana, 6, is undergoing treatment at Gandhi Hospital following the incident.
According to preliminary information, the girl’s mother, Shabana, a resident of Hasmathpet in Old Bowenpally, had been struggling financially after being deserted by her husband. She was supporting her two daughters by working as a domestic help.
Her younger daughter, Ruksana, was suffering from an intestinal infection that required medical treatment. Unable to afford the expenses, Ms. Shabana reportedly took the child to Hussainsagar and threw her into the lake.
