Authority in pardon matters rests with the King, says Yeoh

PETALING JAYA: The authority to defer Datuk Seri Najib Razak's pardon application rests with His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, says Hannah Yeoh.

The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) said the authority and final decision in such matters rest with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, in accordance with Article 42 of the Federal Constitution.

"As a member of the Pardons Board and having considered the written opinion of the Attorney General, I provided my views in my capacity as the minister responsible for the Federal Territories at the official meeting of the Pardons Board last Friday (Sept 11).
