The Australian Defence Force (ADF) has published detailed guidance on how non-Australians may be eligible to serve, setting out two distinct routes depending on whether an applicant has prior military experience.

Beyond that, applicants must be permanent residents living in Australia or hold a 444 subclass visa, have resided in Australia for at least one year immediately before submitting their application, and must not have served in any foreign military within the two years prior to applying.
