Aurobindo Pharma's subsidiary, Acrotech Biopharma, has launched a new topical ointment for atopic dermatitis in the U.S. market. This move marks the company's entry into the dermatology sector through a licensing agreement with Otsuka Pharmaceutical.
Why it matters
The expansion into the $1.3 billion U.S. dermatology market represents a significant strategic growth milestone for the pharmaceutical company.
Aurobindo Pharma subsidiary Acrotech Biopharma has launched Adquey (difamilast 1%) ointment, a non-steroidal topical treatment for mild-to-moderate atopic dermatitis, in the U.S.
The product will compete in a market estimated to be around $1.3 billion, the company said citing IQVIA MAT numbers for the 12 months ending July 2026.
Discovered and developed by Otsuka Pharmaceutical, the product is licensed to Acrotech Biopharma for U.S. commercialisation. The launch marks Acrotech’s entry into the U.S. dermatology market. To support the launch and its long-term ambitions in dermatology, the company said it has established a dedicated dermatology business unit.
