Where do the biggest names in Auckland restaurants go to stretch their dining dollar?

Six top chefs – and the Auckland University of Technology (AUT) culinary students they are mentoring – have shared their picks for a quality under-$20 eat.

From downtown dumplings to Northcote noodles and a St Heliers souvlaki deal that will feed two, the recommendations come from participants in Auckland’s Restaurant Month initiative “next on the pass”.

It pairs the likes of Gareth Stewart (Advieh), Ben Bayly (Ahi) and Al Brown (Depot) with up-and-coming student talent to develop dishes that will hit restaurant menus in August.
