Auckland Deputy Mayor Desley Simpson is a staunch supporter of Auckland’s hospitality scene. Not only does she make a concerted effort to attend key events and official openings around the city, she’s also a self-confessed foodie and a “frequent flyer” at some of the city’s top restaurants.

Talking to Viva the day before the City Rail Link opening, Simpson was excited about the potential the new rail network holds for Auckland hospitality businesses that have struggled in recent years.

“They’ve done it tough for a long time and it’s my real hope that they all are able to have a bit of an uptake, as a result of the CRL opening,” Simpson says.

Viva asked Simpson for her recommendations on where to eat, drink and shop, and what to see around the four new stations.

St Kevin’s Arcade is an obvious place to start for Karanga-a-Hape’s best restaurants.
