The couple, who were the first players to claim the Powerball jackpot under Lotto’s new format, said they discovered the life-changing news during their usual Sunday routine.
“I was checking my ticket on MyLotto like I always do on a Sunday morning. My numbers kept coming – and then Powerball did too. It was unbelievable,” said the man, who wished to remain anonymous.
His went straight to wake his wife, who was still in bed, and showed her the winning ticket.
“You’re kidding?” she said. “I kept saying, ‘no, it can’t be right. How can it be right? There must be something wrong’. It felt so surreal.
“He stood there and was as white as a sheet. I remember thinking something terrible had happened.”
