AUC, ATAF Deepen Cooperation On Domestic Resource Mobilisation

African Union Commission and the African Tax Administration Forum officials ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia — The African Union Commission and the African Tax Administration Forum have agreed to strengthen cooperation to help African countries raise more domestic revenue, improve tax compliance and finance sustainable development, writes Winston Mwale .

The commitment was made Monday when an ATAF delegation led by Council Chair Dr. Johnston Makhubu met with AUC Commissioner for Economic Development, Trade, Tourism, Industry and Minerals Francisca Belobe at the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa.

The two organisations discussed practical African-led solutions to strengthen tax policy and administration across the continent.

A key focus was the use of African tax cooperation tools, including the Agreement on Mutual Assistance in Tax Matters (AMATM) .

The agreement allows African tax authorities to exchange information, assist with tax collection, conduct joint tax examinations and cooperate on other tax administration matters.
