The National Prosecuting Authority in the Eastern Cape said it would oppose the bail application of KuGompo-based attorney, charged with the fraudulent submission of Road Accident Fund (RAF) claims valued at approximately R5.2 million.
NPA spokesperson, Luxolo Tyali, said Precious Muleya, a Zimbabwean national, briefly appeared in the KuGompo Magistrates' Court on Monday.
He said the State intends to oppose the bail application.
Tyali said Muleya had allegedly been evading arrest for some time and was apprehended at OR Tambo International Airport on 30 September.
"She initially appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrates' Court in Gauteng, where the matter was subsequently transferred to the Eastern Cape for further proceedings.
"Muleya faces a charge of fraud, alternatively theft, arising from claims allegedly submitted to the RAF on behalf of at least 12 beneficiaries," Tyali said.
