For the first time, an attempt to smuggle goats and pigeons to Sri Lanka by boat was thwarted here on Thursday night.
Following information that the smugglers were about to take illegally goats and pigeons to Sri Lanka by boat from Terespuram, the Q Branch Police team, led by Inspector Vijaya Anita, rushed to the spot on Thursday night. When they reached the beach at Anna Colony around 9.45 p.m., the police team found eight goats and unspecified number of pigeons in three ventilated boxes loaded in an unregistered fibreglass boat with two outboard engines.
