Attack on Riyadh 'a dangerous escalation' - von der Leyen

Irish Foreign Minister Helen McEntee condemned a Houthi attack on Riyadh airport that resulted in casualties. The EU is set to discuss the escalation, emphasizing the need for regional stability and safe shipping in the Straits of Hormuz.
Why it matters
The incident represents a significant escalation in the Yemen conflict with potential global economic consequences for shipping and regional security.
Minister for Foreign Affairs Helen McEntee has condemned the attack by Yemen's Houthis on Riyadh airport and said she was "concerned by the escalation of attacks".
At least 12 people were killed and 309 others injured in a strike the airport, Saudi Arabia's civil aviation officials said.
The Houthis have not claimed responsibility for the attack, but a Saudi-led military coalition vowed to respond to the Yemeni group.
The Houthis also renewed their warning to airlines, airport workers and travellers against using Saudi airports.
In a statement this afternoon, Ms McEntee said that Ireland was standing in solidarity with Saudi Arabia.
