A landslide hit the Kurla region in Mumbai eastern suburb in the early hours of Wednesday (August 12, 2026), killing at least six people and injuring four others. Rescue operations are under way to trace those trapped under the debris.
Two people are trapped under the debris, Deputy Chief Fire Brigade K.R. Yadav said as the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) along with 50 Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation personnel continued rescue efforts.
The BMC reported this as a level-II incident which occurred around 3:48 a.m. at Gaushiya Chawl in Chirag Nagar, near Rathod Medical in Kurla West. The soil and debris from the hillside collapsed onto two to three houses, resulting in loss of life and property damage, according to Mayor Ritu Tawde, who visited the site to inspect opertions.
