When Ben Halpin was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in June 2022, it came as a shock. He had no symptoms, and his diagnosis came after a routine blood test.
Having just turned 30, Halpin was also relatively young to be diagnosed with the disease, which typically affects people aged over 65. Around 800 people are diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in Ireland each year, 60% are over 65.
We’re meeting in the office of Halpin Wealth and Mortgages in Douglas, Cork, the business he runs with his wife, Samantha.
When he received the results of that routine blood test in 2022, it revealed that one or two markers, which track inflammation, were slightly elevated.
