Association urges government to set up separate welfare board for people living with HIV/AIDS

An association for People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLHA) has urged the State government to establish a separate welfare board for PLHAs.
In a representation to the government, the Namakkal District HIV Positive People Welfare Society said that a welfare board would enable them to take the needs and problems of PLHAs to the attention of the State government.
Listing a number of demands, the association said that the government should cover the educational expenses of children of people living with HIV/AIDS who are applying to or currently studying in private colleges.
The State government should ensure that all government medical college hospitals provide surgical care to PLHAs without discrimination or denial of treatment. Some people living with HIV/AIDS have developed chronic kidney diseases and require dialysis. The government should take appropriate steps to provide dedicated dialysis machines for PLHAs region-wise at government medical college hospitals.
