Assembly adopts resolution for separate column on BC data collection in Census questionnaire
The Telangana Assembly passed a resolution requesting the Union Government to include a separate column for BC/OBC data in the 2027 Census. While the ruling party and allies supported the move, the BJP staged a walk-out citing concerns over the implementation of previous welfare declarations.

The Telangana Assembly on Friday adopted a resolution unopposed requesting the Union Government for inclusion of BC/OBC in the second phase questionnaire of the Census-2027 with a separate column to collect data as is the provision for SC, ST communities. The ruling Congress, AIMIM and CPI supported the resolution, while BJP staged a walk-out protesting the government failure to implement the BC Declaration.
However, the BJP members and treasury benches engaged in a war of words on their parties’ efforts for BCs’ development, with the two sides blaming each other for neglecting the BC communities for a long time, during a short discussion on the matter.
