Assam continued to grapple with the aftermath of devastating floods on Sunday, with the death toll remaining at 82 and nearly 1.78 lakh people still affected across seven districts. Although floodwaters have begun to recede in some areas, thousands remain displaced, agricultural land is submerged, and the state government has intensified relief, rehabilitation and long-term mitigation efforts.According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the flood situation has improved slightly, with the number of affected people declining from over 1.92 lakh to 1.78 lakh. However, 349 villages across Golaghat, Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, Bajali, Dhemaji and Sonitpur districts remain affected.Charaideo is the worst-hit district, with more than 75,000 people affected, followed by over 58,000 in Sivasagar.
