Assam is heading for a byelection for one of its parliamentary seats, Nagaon, on October 6, 2026. The four-way contest for the seat is between Congress , BJP , All India United Democratic Front(AIUDF), and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) .
The byelection to the Nagaon parliamentary seat was necessitated after Pradyut Bordoloi, who won in 2019 and 2024 as a Congress candidate, quit the party to join the BJP and contested the State polls in April this year. He was elected from the Dispur Assembly constituency.
The counting for the Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll and five Assembly byelections, including the high-profile Nandigram in West Bengal, will be held on October 9.
