NEW DELHI: India’s medal winners at the Asian Games 2026 could return home with more than a place on the podium. Along with national recognition, athletes who win gold, silver or bronze are eligible for cash awards under a central government scheme. They may also qualify for sports-quota jobs and additional incentives announced by their respective state governments.The central cash awards are laid out in the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports’ “Special Awards to Medal Winners in International Sports Events and their Coaches” scheme. The scheme, first introduced in 1986, has been revised over time, with the stated aim of rewarding sporting achievement, encouraging higher performance and inspiring young people to take up sports.For an individual Asian Games medal, the listed central award is Rs 30 lakh for gold, Rs 20 lakh for silver and Rs 10 lakh for bronze.
