The 27-year-old became the first Indian to win a Commonwealth Games medal in the men’s high jump when he cleared 2.22m for bronze in Birmingham in 2022.
Four years later, he added another first to his name by becoming the first Indian to win a Commonwealth Games medal in the decathlon, claiming bronze and further underlining his emergence as a multi-event athlete.
With the Asian Games six weeks away, Shankar is looking to build on the steady progress he has made this season and is targeting nothing short of a personal best and a shot at gold.
