ASHA workers oppose ‘Gruha Lakshmi’ tasks, seek higher honorarium

ASHA workers in Mysuru are protesting against being assigned non-health-related tasks, specifically the 'Gruha Lakshmi' scheme verification. They are demanding a higher consolidated honorarium of ₹15,000 and better support for their digital work requirements.
Why it matters
The protest highlights the ongoing struggle for fair compensation and role clarity among frontline health workers in India.
The Mysuru district unit of Karnataka Rajya Samyuktha AASHA Karyakartheyara Sanghatane has taken a strong objection to the deputation of ASHA workers for the re-verification and training in connection with the ‘Gruha Lakshmi’ scheme.
In a memorandum, the Sanghatane urged Health Minister U.T. Khader not to assign duties that do not come under the purview of the health sector. Opposing the additional responsibilities given to them, they said that it is impossible for them to attend training and activities outside their health service duties.
Explaining the operational hurdles faced by the workers while using Samastha mobile app, through which they discharge their duties, the Sanghatane stated that though digital work is mandatory, mobile or tablet devices have not been provided to them. Monthly rent allowance of ₹280 which has been fixed in lieu of mobile provision has also been stopped, they stated in the memorandum.
