ASB chief executive Vittoria Shortt is stepping down at the end of the year after almost nine years leading the bank.

Sinead Taylor has been appointed as Shortt’s successor.

Taylor comes from ASB’s parent company the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, where she was most recently group executive of institutional banking and markets.

Shortt is the second big bank boss to depart this year after Antonia Watson, CEO of ANZ, announced in June she was stepping down .

Shortt will finish with ASB on December 11.

“When I look back at what we’ve achieved, I’m most proud of how deeply our purpose has become part of ASBers’ work every day to help improve customers’ financial wellbeing, support our communities and back the New Zealand economy,” Shortt said.
