Perambalur MP Arun Nehru on Tuesday drew the attention of the Central Government in the Lok Sabha regarding the problems faced by farmers cultivating major crops including maize, paddy and cotton in his constituency.
Highlighting the issues, he sought an explanation on whether the government had conducted any studies on them. He also questioned whether any steps have not been taken so far to provide quality seeds, fertilizers, easy credit facilities, technical advice, and solid market opportunities.
In his response, Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Ramnath Thakur said that the Centre was implementing a 100% centrally funded Central Sector Scheme known as the Modified Interest Subvention Scheme (MISS) across various States and Union Territories to provide concessional interest rates on short-term agricultural loans obtained by farmers through Kisan Credit Cards (KCC) for their working capital requirements.
